In late 2018, Altria, former Philip Morris, purchased a 35% stake in e-cigarette maker Juul, worth $12.8 billion.  That purchase values Jull at $38 billion dollars.  It paired a company that controls half of the American tobacco market with Juul- which sells more that 70% of the cartridge-based e-cigarettes in the United States.

Juul has come under fire as a lawsuit alleging the device caused a 15-year old boy to become addicted to nicotine was filed by his parents.  Several states including Massachusetts have opened investigations into Juul to determine if the company is targeting minors with their products.  Although Juul vaping devices are intended for adults over 21, they have become quite popular with teens, particularly high school strudents.  In fact, the devices have become so trendy that many of the kids now refer to it as “juuling.”  There is a concern that the next generations version of smoking with be e-cigarettes.  See FDA Warnings!
