Being convicted of a DUI can seriously effect your life and your future.  DUI convictions often result in the loss of driving privileges and sometimes jail time.
What Happens If I Get a DUI?

A DUI arrest in Alabama causes two things to happen. First you now have a pending criminal case, second, you also have a matter for the Department of Motor Vehicles. If you have been arrested for a DUI, you can ask the Department of Public Safety for an administrative hearing, so that the issue of your license being suspended can be addressed. You only have 10 days from the date of your arrest to ask for such a hearing. Please be aware Auburn Students, a Driving Under the Influence conviction can cost you dearly. The fees and fines can be quite large and the effect on your insurance rates and background checks are dramatic.

First Offense DUI

If you are convicted of a First Offense DUI in Alabama, you can be made to serve up to One Year in jail and/or pay a fine ranging from $600 to $2100.   The minimum fine for a first DUI is $ 600.00

In addition to these fines and jail time, you may be required to install an Ignition Interlock Device on your vehicle for a period of time determined by the court if:

You refuse to provide a breath sample after being arrested, or

You are convicted of DUI with a BAC of .15 or higher, or

You are in an accident with injury to other people, or a have a minor under the age of 14 in the car.

Ignition interlock is installed for a minimum of 180 days but can be longer depending on each circumstance.
