J & J Talc Verdicts
Three Verdicts Total $197 million for Johnson & Johnson powder products!
J & J Talc Verdicts. Recently, two separate St. Louis juries found in favor of a pair of women who suffered from ovarian caner, awarding $197 million between the two cases. Both of these juries found that the women’s ovarian cancer had been caused by long-term use of Johnson and Johnson’s Baby Powder and/or Shower to Shower. It became known to the juries that members of Johnson and Johnson’s leadership were aware of the risk, but kept that information hidden from the public. It was common knowledge within the company for years, still nothing was done.
These judgments at first glance appear to be a ridiculous amount of money to award to these women. After all, $197,000,000.00 is a big number and it has a lot of zeros in it. However, if you’ve ever had cancer or you’ve been close to someone who has had cancer, you understand that you can’t buy a cancer-free body. Even if you survive cancer, the toll on your body from the treatments is huge and difficult to place a value on. There is no amount of money that will return these women to their pre-cancer health.
One should further note that, Johnson & Johnson likely profited by billions from the sale of talc products over the last 40 years. The fact that they knew of the link between talc and cancer, yet continued to sell talc products without any warning to consumers is inexcusable. But that is often what big business does. They put profits ahead of all other concerns. Don’t be brainwashed by the ‘frivolous lawsuit’ contingent. A reprehensible, responsible company should at least be made to share the profits gained from their dangerous products.
